JOYCE'S BIRTHDAY
On Friday, 10 October, Joyce attained her 70th birthday. This heralded a weekend of hectic activity. In the morning she was taken out to breakfast in Chilton and in the afternoon to pictures to see Mamma Mia and in the evening, she was given, her presents and a cake from Sian, Jan and Lynne and their families and taken to dinner at the Crown in South Morton.
The next day, Joe and Tom came around to give her their present, a gold and silver necklace.
On Sunday afternoon, Joyce visited an antiques fair in Didcot, took a walk around Harcourt Arboretum at Nuneham Courtney and went to a garden centre. In the evening, she was taken to a surprise dinner and to see Chas and Dave at the Mill at Sonning. Unknown to her, Jan and Griff and Lynne and Neil were there to complete the surprise and at the dinner she received an antique silver pocket watch and chain. The watch was dated 1886 and a silver threepenny bit on the chain was dated 1877 (the year when Crazy Horse, the Indian chief was killed and Billy the Kid killed for the first time!).
All-in-all it was a very full weekend.
